Eric Linder believes that education must be exceptional, accessible and affordable. These principles must be applied to every student experience and it should help to inspire a lifetime of learning.
Because Eric’s daughter is now enrolled in a California university — and his two sons are in elementary school – he understands the challenges faced by millions of parents who are very concerned with the quality of their children’s learning and the burdensome costs of affording the rising costs of education.
For younger students, Eric has worked to establish world-class standards in all schools, as well as supporting a broad new approach to how our schools receive their funding – removing state mandates, and letting local school districts best decide how to invest their money into their students. He has also worked to directly strengthen safety protocols at schools, including supporting the development of procedures to prevent violence on campus, where students have a right to be safe.
In higher education, Eric has been one of the most powerful voices in the Capitol calling for a tuition freeze and for California to keep its promise and invest new funds in order to make college more affordable for millions of young people facing skyrocketing tuition costs. Linder says this is a matter of fundamental fairness and honesty in government, and he was successful in helping to move critical budget decisions that support schools first and government second.
Finally, Eric was instrumental in establishing and funding the UC Riverside School of Medicine, the state’s first new public medical school in 40 years. This was one of Linder’s top priorities, because it will ensure that the region will have more physicians and better health care access for Inland Empire residents, while simultaneously establishing an economic anchor and stimulate the local economy as much as $150 million every year.
